Songwriters at Grove Theater on Aug. 29

--information provided by Allen McBride

Ellis Paul will perform at the Grove Theater Aug. 29

Tickets are now on sale to see Ellis Paul and Chris Trapper at the Grove Theater on Saturday, August 29.

Sixteen years ago, the Boston Globe was calling Ellis Paul a "songwriter's songwriter" and saying, "No emerging songwriter in recent memory has been more highly touted and respected by songwriters." That was before he became a major crossover folk-pop star, with his songs featured in blockbuster movies and hit TV shows.

Chris Trapper, who has fronted the rock band the Push Stars, will open the show.

Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door, and are available at The Ferrell Shop and Moondollars Cafe, both in Jackson Square, Oak Ridge, or online at www.cumberlandmusic.org. Doors will open at 7:30, and the concert will begin at 8 p.m.

Playhouse Brings Iconic Film to the Stage

Debuting in London in 2000 and New York in 2002, "The Graduate" comes to East Tennessee for the first time in a production at Oak Ridge Playhouse, directed by Managing Artistic Director Reggie Law.

The play is based on the classic 1967 Mike Nichols film starring Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, and Katherine Ross, for which all three earned Oscars and has since been preserved by the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for its cultural significance.

The play opens at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. There will be a champagne reception following the performance, where you can mix and mingle with the cast and crew. A complimentary glass of champagne and heavy hors d'oeuvres are included in the $5 reception pass. You may purchase your reception pass with your ticket order.

Tickets range in range in price from $15 to $20, depending on the performance date. For tickets and more information, log on to www.orplayhouse.com or call (865) 482-9999.
